Mapping out the latest hydration architecture

Hydration and electrolytes continue to undergo innovation makeovers with brands continuing to diversify the category through format, while simultaneously reevaluating electrolyte doses as hydration stretches well beyond the stereotypical active nutrition consumer.
But as electrolytes become increasingly familiar, and, in many cases, expected – simply adding the standard electrolyte blend no longer cuts the mustard. Instead, brands are finding new ways to differentiate through new delivery systems, electrolyte architectures, functional positionings and even the wider experience surrounding hydration.
So, what's the latest ‘so what’ in electrolytes?
New onto the scene is ElectroChew – the brand putting electrolytes into, you guessed it, chewing gum. Designed to “support hydration, performance and recovery” with an electrolyte profile: 52mg sodium [pink Himalayan salt], 41mg calcium, 30mg magnesium and 19mg potassium. While each individual electrolyte dose sits considerably below the category median, the gum certainly knows how to pack a functional punch and certainly brings a different dimension to the category.
Beyond gum, BODIE.Z has put an experiential twist on hydration with its Electrolyte Fizz designed to fizz the “second it hits your tongue”. Simply rip the sachet, tip it straight onto your tongue and let the Strawberry Lemonade fizz while the electrolytes [237mg sodium, 117mg potassium and 40mg magnesium] infuse into your system.
And there’s even brands like Once Upon A Farm reimagining electrolyte delivery through its smoothie-based Electrolyte Blend . Think of it as your smoothie routine upgraded with an infusion of natural electrolytes from coconut water and sea salt to support “daily hydration and electrolyte balance”
