Protein prices bucking economic trend

Given the economic instability of recent years, we’ve been surprised to see prices across several protein powder categories drop in the last 12 months.

While some of these decreases have only been slight (WPC has seen a 0.92 EUR decrease), others have been more significant (WPI saw a 4.22 EUR decrease).

That said, weight loss RTMs have held steady, while clear whey has seen an increase of 2.14 EUR.

The effects that cause these trends are likely multifaceted, but with recent decreases in food inflation in the UK (which is highly influenced by the global prices of resources like energy, fertilizer etc.), it’s likely that the production process has likely become cheaper in recent months.

The result? Savings can be passed onto the consumer - especially in the more established, ‘every day’ types of protein.
