to our newsletter
As we kick off a new year, it can be useful to have the top-line perspective and statistics for key categories. This month, we’re looking at pre-workout RTMs. We analysed 1,480 products from 680 brands across Europe and the US and Canada to find out the following…
Flavour
Across the products on our database, fruity flavours lead the way. Nearly a third of all products are raspberry flavoured, with the more generic ‘fruit’ and ‘melon’ close behind:
- Raspberry (27%)
- Fruit (23%)
- Melon (20%)
Claims
Perhaps unsurprisingly, when we looked at the claims most often cited in pre-workout RTMs, caffeine comes out on top, used by more than half of all products.
- Caffeine (56%)
- Pump (52%)
- Amino acid (34%)
Active ingredients and median doses
In line with the claims, caffeine is the most popular active ingredient, followed by citrulline and beta alanine. Below are the median doses per ingredient.
- Caffeine (0.2g)
- Citrulline (4g)
- Beta alanine (2.25g)
Price per serving
We also looked at the price per serving of pre-workout RTM powders in both Europe and the US:
Europe: €1.10
US: $1.60
Top sellers
In November 2023, the top selling pre-workout RTM on Amazon UK was Warrior’s Rage Pre-Workout powder, which sold 12,471 units.
On Amazon US, the top seller was Cellucor’s C4 Energy Carbonated, which saw sales volumes of 59,635.
